2014 Division I & JV State Champions!

The Neenah High School varsity chess team is the 2014 Division I State Champion, and for the first time since 1993 the championship cup has traveled north of the Milwaukee-Madison line.  The 2014 State Championship was held at the University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh on March 22nd and 23rd.  All five varsity players returned to defend last year's co-championship.

Neenah defeated a strong University School of Milwaukee "B" team in the first round on Saturday.  In the second round, Neenah avenged their only 2013 loss by upsetting top-seeded Madison West.  They finished Saturday's play be defeating New Berlin West high school in the third round.

On Sunday morning, Neenah faced the only other undefeated team, Brookfield Academy.  In a hotly contested match that came down to the final seconds, Neenah prevailed to clinch at least another co-championship. Neenah lost its final match to the University School of Milwaukee "A" team but was awarded first place on tiebreakers based on the strength of their opponents.

Neenah High School's junior varsity team won the state JV championship for the fourth straight year, and Neenah schools also competed in the K-8 and K-5 sections.  The K-8 team finished in sixth place.
