About...

The NeenahChess blog is devoted to the students and parents who live in the Neenah School District and participate in the scholastic chess program.  It is operated by the coaches who organize clubs and travel to tournaments for students at Neenah High School, Shattuck Middle School, and Horace Mann Middle School.  Students of these schools participate in the Northeast Wisconsin Chess Association (NEWCA) tournaments each year.  We also participate in the State Scholastic championships in Oshkosh, and our high school varsity students travel to the National High School Championships.

We are also interested in supporting clubs at the Neenah elementary schools.  We organize a club that runs at Coolidge Elementary in January and February.  Parents, teachers, or friends of elementary students at other Neenah schools interested in starting their own clubs may contact NeenahChess@gmail.com for information, materials, and suggestions.

History
The attention we have shown to chess in Neenah has resulted in some rewarding accomplishments in recent years.  Most recently, our varsity team became the 2013 state co-champions in the highly competitive Division I!  Other accomplishments include a NEWCA postseason JV championship in 2009, and both NEWCA regular season and postseason championships for our varsity "Red" team in 2010 and 2011.  In 2012, the Red team went undefeated in both the regular and postseason, and successfully defended the regular season title in 2013.

In March, 2010 our Varsity team won the Division II State Championship, and our middle schools combined to win the State Middle School Championship!  In March, 2011 our Junior Varsity team won the State Junior Varsity Championship, and went on to successfully defend that championship in 2012 and 2013.
