The Neenah chess team concluded its regular season on Saturday, where they played in rounds 15-18 of the Northeast Wisconsin Chess Association season. As the day began, the varsity Red team needed to win all four matches to regain first place. After sweeping the first two rounds, Neenah Red faced the host school, arch-rival Marion, in round 17. In a close contest clinched by an exciting comeback victory on board 4, the Red team unseated Marion and went on to finish in first place for their second straight N.E.W.C.A. regular season championship.
Neenah's varsity White team also finished strong, concluding the season in a clear third place, and Neenah's junior varsity team finished in third place as well. Neenah High School will host the N.E.W.C.A. postseason tournament on Saturday, March 5th.
